I was unable to attend the cricket match last weekend on the lawn in front of Sherborne House, but I understand it was very well attended, supported, and a great community event. Well done to all, especially Ed Richardson and Jonathan Benson for organising, and to the House residents for giving permission, and Philip for preparing the wicket.

The community benefits go way beyond watching a game of cricket, of course, as important as that is.

One hundred years ago, village events such as this were quite frequent and regular. The picture here was of another village sporting event in 1924 at the village fete, but clearly a hard-fought one. Perhaps we should repeat this in the future, but we'll need to source a pig!
