Diary dates etc
Firstly a couple of diary dates:
- On Tuesday 3 March, between 5 pm and 6.30pm, Andrew Danson of the National Trust is holding a drop ins session in the NT offices. He is available then to anyone from Sherborne to answer any queries etc that you may have regarding the NT Sherborne Estate. I think this is a good initiative to create a useful communication path and I encourage you to use it.
- On Saturday at 10.00 am , meeting at the allotment at the east of the village we are planting a number of Ancestor Oak trees - two at Dawn Tremaine’s driveway on the road to Clapton and two beside the triangle at the Western side of the village. Others will follow, perhaps on the Sunday. See you there.
Three oaks are being planted by Sherborne House the day before by gardeners there and I’m in dialogue about a number of others, especially at Haycroft.
Once all 17 are out we’ll tap on the brass plaques at a date to be confirmed.
A couple of other things to look out for in coming months:
A. We seem a bit confused about swans - I certainly don’t have confidence about which is which but its been noted at least one seems to be making a nest in the middle of what was once the Broadwater. Eyes peeled, let me know your thoughts.
B. I have bene hearing about the daffodils tradition in Sherborne - they were once formally picked as sold at the roadside on the A40 - many old varieties in the Sherborne House Pleasure Ground and elsewhere. More to follow on this in coming weeks.
