Land-Bone

This forgotten Sherborne stone sits still beside the track. But the stone itself does not forget. The stone remembers it all. The mystery is how to ask it to tell its secrets and its story, and how to listen when it speaks. The story it tells is strange. A man might tell of what passed by, what history he has seen. A stone will tell you of where it is. It will tell you of the very moment a leaf fell or a drop of rain splashed down its side. Around here, it will also tell of other stones. It will tell of the pain of the hard, hard frost or the love of a warm summer dawn. Touch it with care - it has been both beaten and caressed over more years than we can count.

It is the bared bone of our land.
