Seven Sherborne Swans a-Swimming
Swans on the Brook and Village Tea Party
There are now reports that there are 5 cygnets on the Brook, which is great news. One, perhaps two lost, which would be normal. They have begun the usual “excursion” up the Brook from the Broadwater to Haycroft and back. Serena at the Dairy waves them goodbye and Patrick welcomes them for a while at Haycroft before they return. I watch them pass backwards and forwards and it seems the cygnets are already too big for the heron - but Hamlet is very protective, seeing off even mild mannered ducks.
I watched them row past this morning with two cygnets riding on Blanche’s back, a delight even for a hard-bitten grumpy-old-man like me. No photo I‘m afraid, too far away and it was pouring with rain (also a good thing).
