Dates and Sightings

Sherborne Notices

Just a reminder of some key dates:

Sunday 7 September, 10.00 am (this weekend) – Moors Copse grip clearing. Volunteers requested to help clear the gully, drain and grip. Won't take long. Hopefully the NT will be present so we can hop over the fence and clear the soak-away pool too. Essential activity to keep silt from entering the Brook. Please bring a spade, or be prepared to wear a High Vis vest to slow traffic. You are welcome to park at my place and walk the 150m uphill to the kink in the road by Moors Copse.

Saturday 13 September, 12 noon – Lodge Park Open Day and Deer Coursing Research talk by Sherborne Archives. Free entrance. Well worth supporting—a key aspect of Sherborne's past. See poster below.

Thursday 25 September, 7pm – Sherborne Harvest Supper. See poster below. This event was a regular and much enjoyed annual fixture before COVID. We should all support it and the people working to make it happen. The charity is one we should support as a rural community.

Sightings:

  1. Probable sighting by Serena of a marsh harrier flying over the Narrowwater. Marsh harriers are very rare, but this seems a genuine sighting and I have checked with two ornithologists who think it very likely. Here’s an AI generated image of what one looks like, maybe (the underside of the wings might be a bit lighter in real life, an he had colouring less sharply delineated):

    2. On the flip side, no swans or egrets seen for some time. Very sad
