Stone Age Sherborne

Dear All

I have being doing more research into another site in Sherborne (not the Northern boundary)  and would like to share what I have found. So:

Stone Age Sherborne - a short walk through time into the Neolithic period.

Date - Sunday 23 March - 1 pm.

We’ll walk to a local site in Sherborne which I think I can show is neolithic, a special spot, and take some measurements and photos requested by archaeologists. We’ll discuss why this site has been positioned at the particular place and some other peculiar characteristics.  We’ll also discuss some remarkable and spooky village folklore associated with the site.

The walk will take 45 minutes, gentle but muddy underfoot. If you don’t fancy a two mile stroll in a circuit there’s a "there and back" of less than half a mile in total as an option.

Interestingly, the site appears to be aligned deliberately with the equinox sunrise. It is the Spring Equinox on 20 March hence choosing the nearest Sunday - but not sunrise ;- )  Bring a camera and a tape measure.

If you’d like to come, please email me and I’ll tell you the Rendezvous Point. I think we should keep this site a little confidential so I won’t be publicising it elsewhere or revealing more detail in advance.

Where else do you plan with connecting with your 5000 year old Sherborne predecessors on a bright spring day in 2025?   Where else can a spooky story send a shiver down your spine on a Sunday?

Separately, Bruce sent me this interesting picture of scarlet elf cups, taken in local woodland:

As Spring sneaks up on us slowly lots of flora and fauna emerges - please send me your pics to publish in the emails  - they always get great attention from the Group

Finally a thank you to Clendon who has provided us with plenty of plastic tree guards for our Ancestor Oaks.
