Sherborne's secret corner hiding in plain sight
Pyramid Orchid in Sherborne

Sometimes Sherborne hides its most special secrets, but they are hidden in plain view. The triangle of grass as you enter the village is one such special spot. Here's a short video explaining.

I'm in the early stages of getting my head around posting videos and of course I should have filmed this in landscape not portrait mode. I'll learn!

You might notice, too, as you drive up the road towards Bourton over Waterloo Bridge and on up that road, the verge has been carefully strimmed by the Haycroft team. In one or two spots, you will see that they have deliberately left more Pyramid Orchids standing and they make a beautiful sight.Well done to the Haycroft Team for being so thoughtful.

Now, a date for your diary. There is a National Trust Community drop-in session next week at the Sherborne Estate Office between 5pm and 6.30pm on 15 June 2026. This is a great opportunity to engage informally with the local National Trust staff, ask questions and construct dialogue. I think it's a very useful session, and I encourage anyone who has anything useful to ask or suggestions to offer to attend and make the points known. I know that the National Trust team will be as open as possible in responding to any queries. I'll see you there.
